On June 23, 2014 I was able to go and see this beautiful play in Tyler with my Malu. When we first arrived, we wondered how they would pull it off on such a small stage. I knew it could be done, but the question was how? For as long as I could remember, I’ve been going to see musicals in various places. Dallas, Kilgore, Casa Mañana, and now Tyler Civic Theatre are the places I’ve been so far.

So moving on, the lights go dim and the music starts. Me being the theatre freak I am, I sat up and sat on the edge of my seat and I had this feeling telling me I was in for a treat. Boy was that feeling correct, the actors had amazing vocals and Eponine had this beautiful note and she held it so well. By the end of the show I was shell shocked, not only had the actors broken the third wall which was expected since it was a round theatre but it was more amazing than I could ever expect. Some of the actors were so young, and the stagehands were quick and almost flawless. When I was asked later on who my favorite character was, I absolutely could not decide. Would it be Jean Veljean, Javert, Eponine, Young Cosette, Cosette, Marius, Joly, Grantaire/Bamatabois, or even Lesgles/Coureyrac?? How was I to choose, they were all so amazing and talented.

Well I chose not to decide, and afterwards I was able to speak to the talented people I had felt so attached to as I watched them perform. Each one had their own unique personality, and it felt like I was meeting the Queen of England or something. They aren’t famous… Yet. They do not bite, but when you are given the opportunity to shake hands with them, you just have this overwhelming amount of respect and gratitude. I was most definitely awestruck, if you are looking for something to go see I would definitely try to make your way and see Les Misérables brought to you by Tyler Civic Theatre Center. You will not regret this choice, I would give them an honest solid 10 but that’s me with almost every musical I see.

Thank you again TV TV for doing the amazing job you’ve done, these actors will surely go far. Once a theatre geek always a theatre geek, just keep doing what you’re doing please and thank you.

Below shows a picture of (in order from left to right) Jean Veljean, Me, and a stage hand I didn’t get the name of. What’re you doing Allie? He was a big help as well! Thanks again.
